We’re on the road to nowhere down the Overseas Highway 1 to the most southerly point in the US mainland. First stop en route is Key Largo, immortalized by Bogie and Bacall. The Key Largo much maligned mangrove trees fail to conjure up images of paradise but make for a more befitting location for one of their other big hits ‘African Queen’ which was also filmed here. The boat featured in the film is in the process of being restored.
